13. Internationale Metallographie-Tagung mit Rekordbeteiligung PDF Print

340 Teilnehmer aus zehn Ländern waren bei der 13. Internationalen Metallographie-Tagung von 29. September bis 1. Oktober an der Montanuniversität Leoben zu Gast. Die vom Department Metallkunde und Werkstoffprüfung veranstaltete Konferenz bot ein anspruchsvolles Vortragsprogramm mit vier Plenar- und 67 Kurzvorträgen auf den Gebieten Gefüge-Charakterisierung, Quantitative Bildanalyse, Gefüge und Werkstoffeigenschaften, Keramische und Verbundwerkstoffe, TiAl-Werkstoffe sowie Schadensanalyse. Ergänzt wurde die erfolgreiche Tagung durch eine umfangreiche Ausstellung neuester metallographischer Geräte und Methoden.

University plenary assemblies at all public universities in Austria on October 19, 2010.
Sufficient funds and well-coordinated entrance regulations – this is what the Austrian universities rectors insist on and openly declared in four synchronised press conferences in Vienna, Graz, Salzburg and Klagenfurt on Friday, October 1, 2010.
In the Graz Press Club, the Styrian rectors Hans Sünkel (Graz University of Technology), Wolfhard Wegscheider (University of Leoben) and Martin Polaschek (vice rector at University of Graz) spoke out and a took clear stand against the federal government.

Great Success for BIONIC Conference in Leoben PDF Print

The one-day conference “Prospects of BIONIC for Functional Materials Science and Engineering”, which took place on September 22 at the University of Leoben, received extremely positive feedback and was a great success. Under the scientific management of Prof. Dr. Oskar Paris (Institute of Physics) and organised by the Industrial Liaison Department, the organisers succeeded in giving a profound overview about the national and international activities in this field of research in a surprisingly compact and concise programme. Moreover, by hosting 110 participants, the expectations of the organizers were exceeded by far.

Under the motto "Access to Knowledge and Information Competence for Everybody?", the ODOK conference 2010 takes place from September 22 to 24 at the University of Leoben. The conference is jointly organised by the Association of Austrian Librarians and the Austrian Society for Documentation and Information and has been taking place every two years since it came into existence 25 years ago. The topics discussed range from financing, the documentation and administration of electronic media, as well as the relevant developments in the information and knowledge society.

Pangeo Austria - Major Conference at the University of Leoben PDF Print

One of the biggest conferences in Austria in the field of geosciences, the "Pangeo Austria 2010", was hosted at the University of Leoben from September 15 to 19, 2010. Under the motto „Earth Sciences – Basic Research and Application“, more than 300 experts from seven nations gathered and participated in 150 presentations and just as many poster presentations, in addition to eight geologic excursions that were scheduled before and after the conference.

Great Accomplishment for Leoben Graduate PDF Print

Having graduated just recently from the University of Leoben, Dipl.-Ing. Stefan Witschnig has won the poster competition in the categories A (Mechanical Properties) and F (Ceramics) at the Junior-Euromat 2010 in Lausanne. Among 60 participants, he qualified for the finale that comprises the presentation of eight papers. In the course of the finale, he will also have the opportunity to present his master’s thesis in detail.

The University of Leoben celebrated “40 years of Polymer Engineering and Science” with a diverse and well-attended event programme on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Since its start in the winter semester of 1969/70, 640 students have graduated in this field. For the future, Leoben pursues the ambitious goal of developing the Polymer Engineering programme into a “European Centre of Excellence”

Topping-Out Ceremony of the Raw Materials Innovation Centre Leoben PDF Print

In the centre of the University of Leoben Campus, the new “Raw Materials Innovation Centre“ [Impulszentrum für Rohstoffe, IZR] is being built in the immediate vicinity of the “Materials Innovation Centre“ [Impulszentrum für Werkstoffe, IZW]. Within a record construction period of only one year, a 7-storey building is being erected that takes full advantage of the narrow plot, creating precisely 3.358 m² of floor area on a plot of only 729 m². In future, the new building will accommodate innovative enterprises and scientific facilities of the University of Leoben from the fields of raw materials.

This has now been proven by a recently released annual and representative student survey, carried out by the consulting agency “Universum Communication”. The University of Leoben has received similarly prominent distinctions in the final report of the "trendence Graduate Barometer 2010", a survey conducted by the "trendence” Institute.

Austrian – Russian Cooperation in the Field of Resource Engineering PDF Print

After nearly two-years of intense negotiations, the University of Leoben has succeeded in concluding a far-reaching cooperative agreement with the St. Petersburg State Mining Institute. The aim of the agreement is to train Russian and Austrian engineers in the fields of mineral resources and mining machinery in a common European and Russian study environment. The agreement also intends to support international enterprises dealing with resource engineering with their future investments in Russia and create the personnel resources for successful project developments.
