TU Austria is Number 1 in University Ranking |

In an online survey, commissioned by the weekly magazine "Format", more than a hundred personnel managers from Austrian enterprises and professional personnel consultants have named the three universities of the TU Austria (Technical University of Vienna, University of Leoben and the Technical University of Graz) the best universities in Austria. 56% of the interviewees awarded the distinction "outstanding" to the University of Leoben and the Technical University of Vienna, followed by the University of Technology of Graz with 51%. |

"Hellmut Longin Award" presented for the 1st time |

Three young female scientists are the first recipients of the „Hellmut Longin Award“ at the University of Leoben. The award aims to promote outstanding scientific works in the field of ceramics, and was awarded for the first time at the festive graduation ceremony last Friday, June 25th, 2010. The summer commencement at the University of Leoben honoured the academic accomplishments of 54 graduate students and conferred 13 doctorates. |

In an online survey, commissioned by the weekly magazine "Format", more than a hundred personnel managers from Austrian enterprises and professional personnel consultants have named the University of Leoben the best university in Austria. The distinction "outstanding" was given to the University of Leoben by 56% of the interviewees, followed by the University of Technology of Graz with 51% and the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) with 43%.

6th Festival of Nations in Leoben |

For the 6th time, the Festival of Nations will be hosted on Friday, 18th of June, 2010 in Leoben. Students from 61 nations, who pursue their studies at the University of Leoben, will enchant the Leoben main square with dance performances, music and international delicacies.

Distinguished international scientists assemble at workshop in Eisenerz |

From May 30th to June 3rd, 2010, an international workshop, dealing with the "In situ characterisation of near-surface processes", took place in Eisenerzer Ramsau. The conference was organised by the Department of Physics and supported by NANONET Styria and the national research network of the FWF "Organic thin films". The organising committee, under the direction of Prof. Christian Teichert, consisted of representatives from the University of Leoben, the Karl Franzens University of Graz, and the University of Technology Graz. Dr. Brigitta Kriszt and Mrs. Heide Kirchberger were responsible for the technical organisation. |

“Did you know that men are not the only well-skilled professionals in a mine, but women are accomplished miners as well?” With these words, the representative of the Styrian Commemorative Work, Dr. Gerald Schöpfer, introduced Dipl-Ing. Dr.mont. Claudia Pfeiler in his laudation. Pfeiler is the first female doctoral student at the Montan University Leoben to receive the Josef-Krainer-Award in recognition of her outstanding dissertation. |

The Golden Medal of this year’s ICMCTF Graduate Awards went to MUL student Richard Rachbauer. The doctoral candidate of assoz. Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.mont. Paul H. Mayrhofer in the Chair of Metal Sciences and Metallic Materials at the Montan University of Leoben received the award at the International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) held in San Diego, California last week. |
