Leoben Physicist receives Anton Paar Science Award |

Dipl.-Phys. Dr. Igor Beinik, project assistant at the Institute of Physics at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben, has received the Anton Paar Science Award in Physics 2011 in Lausanne, France. The award, worth 2,000 euros, was presented at the annual meeting of the Swiss Physical Society and the Austrian Physical Society (ÖGP).

New Method for Testing Irradiated Material on Nano Scale |

A team of experts, including the Leoben material scientist Dr. Daniel Kiener (Chair of Materialphysics), has developed a new method to identify characteristics and deformation mechanisms for irradiated material from microscopically small specimen. The scientific findings of this study were published under the title "In situ nanocompression testing of irradiated copper" by Kiener and co-authors P. Hosemann, S.A. Maloy and A.M. Minor in the renowned periodical "Nature Materials".

Neue 2K-Spritzgießmaschine für die Kunststofftechnik |

Die Übergabe einer Zweikomponenten-Spritzgießmaschine an den Lehrstuhl für Kunststoffverarbeitung der Montanuniversität Leoben konnte am Mittwochnachmittag im Zentrum für Kunststofftechnik gefeiert werden. "Diese Maschine liefert einen äußerst wertvollen Beitrag dazu, dass an der Montanuniversität Leoben weiterhin mit modernster und hochwertigster Ausstattung gelehrt und geforscht werden kann", betonte Univ.Prof. Dr. Clemens Holzer in Anwesenheit von Bürgermeister Dr. Matthias Konrad, Finanzstadtrat Harald Tischhardt und Vertretern der Firma Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH.

"Clusterland Award 2011" für internationales Leobener Kunststofftechnik-Projekt |

Gemeinsam mit seinen österreichischen Projektpartnern ist Univ.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Walter Friesenbichler, Leiter des Lehrstuhls für Spritzgießen von Kunststoffen der Montanuniversität Leoben, jüngst mit dem "Clusterland Award 2011" ausgezeichnet worden. Friesenbichler ist technisch-wissenschaftlicher Leiter des Projekts "AdvancedPartSim - Neue Simulationsmethoden zur strukturierten Entwicklung hochkomplexer Kunststoffbauteile". Die Ehrung in der Kategorie "Das beste Kooperationsprojekt zwischen Unternehmen und F&E Einrichtungen" wurde im Rahmen einer Festveranstaltung der Raiffeisen-Bankengruppe NÖ-Wien in Kooperation mit dem Land Niederösterreich und ecoplus im Raiffeisenforum Wien überreicht.

In an online survey, commissioned by the weekly magazine "Format", more than 120 personnel managers from Austrian enterprises have named the Montanuniversitaet Leoben the best university in Austria. The distinction "outstanding" was given to the University of Leoben by 58.8% of the interviewees, followed by the University of Technology of Graz with 36.4% and the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) with 36.4%.

In einer vom Wochenmagazin „Format“ in Auftrag gegebenen Online-Umfrage haben in den letzten Wochen mehr als 120 Personalchefs führender österreichischer Unternehmen die Montanuniversität Leoben bereits zum 3. Mal zur besten Hochschule Österreichs gekürt. Die Leobener Universität wurde von 58,8 % der Befragten mit der Note „sehr gut“ bewertet, gefolgt von der TU Graz mit 36,4 % und der WU Wien mit 29,4 Prozent.
