Over the past few days, members of the Montanuniversitaet Leoben have received a number of awards. At award ceremonies in Styria and Vienna, Cracow and Nice as well as the USA, the Montanuniversitaet displayed its excellency in research and teaching.

Official Opening of the Raw Materials Innovation Centre (IZR) |

After only a year of construction work, the new Raw Materials Innovation Centre (IZR) was officially opened on May 20th, 2011. More than 100 guests, among them State Minister for Economic Affairs Dr. Christian Buchmann and Rector Wolfhard Wegscheider, joined the ceremony. The guests not only enjoyed the unique architecture of the building, but also toured the excellent research facilities.

Leoben Junior Scientist Wins Poster Session at Austrian Waste Management Conference |

Dipl.-Ing- Astrid Arnberger, alumna and young scientist at the Institute of Sustainable Waste Management and Technology at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben, won the poster competition at the Austrian Waste Management Conference 2011 in Graz. Among the 36 participants, there were representatives from science, public authorities, and universities. “With her success, Ms. Arnberger has proven that the Montanuniversitaet is still one of the most renowned and best universities in the field of waste management, environmental technology and recycling in Austria", Prof. Karl Lorber said.

Robot-Race in "Real Time“ via Webcam |

Everyone, who is not able to attend the race of the robots at the Erzherzog-Johann-Building, is more than welcome to follow the event in real time via webcam. The first races start on Thursday, May 12th at 9 o’clock, the finale takes place on Friday, May 13th from 10 to 12 o’clock. |

More than 280 participants from 11 countries attended the Austrian Foundry Congress and Exhibition at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben on April 14th and 15th. The congress, which was held for 55th time, is one of the biggest international conferences taking place in Leoben.

Leoben Welcomes Head of Coordination for TU Austria |

Since the foundation of the "TU Austria“ last year, the Vienna University of Technology, Graz University of Technology, and the Montanuniversitaet act collectively in the fields of research, education and university policies. Under the claim "United through Excellence” in science and technology, a network of nearly 8,000 employees and approx. 38,000 students has now established its headquarters in Leoben. Dr. Elke Standeker will function as Head of the Coordination Office.

New XPS Spectrometer for Surface and Interface Research |

The Department of Polymer Engineering at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben has been able to further expand its research infrastructure, as an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) was put into operation last week. "With this facility, new possibilities for the investigation of surfaces open up", Univ.Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kern, from the Chair of Chemistry of Polymeric Materials, said.
