What you can do to protect your computer and data:

  • Please choose a secure password. It should be easy to remember for you, but still be impossible for someone else to guess. Avoid family members´names or first names of people you know. Do not use your own name or birthdays etc. Use combinations of lower and uppercase alphabetic characters and numbers.

  • If you write down your password on a sheet of paper, don´t keep it under your keyboard.

  • Change your password periodically.

  • Don´t give anyone your password.

  • Keep your antivirus software up to date. Protect your computer from viruses and spyware with the newest antivirus technology and newest antivirus definitions (on BKuA computers virus definitions are updated automatically). Keep in mind , that you are part of a community on this university. Computer viruses spread from removable media (e.g. USB flash drives), from downloads off the internet and from e-mail attachments. Never open attachments from people you don´t know.

  • Backup your work regularly! This is the most important thing you can do. ZID only makes a backup of your network drive (last restore point 2 months back). We don´t backup your local saved data on your hard drive!
