Quality assurance in the chemical laboratory (University Course)

Course aim and target audience

Laboratory accreditation based on international agreements and standards is rapidly gaining significance in respect of the global competitiveness of laboratories. Additionally, the broad range of the areas of operation in chemistry has resulted in the fact that chemists with different professional knowledge are used in quality assurance as well as experts.
This course is focused on the practical teaching of the scientific foundation of quality assurance as well as the correct handling of laboratory data and their appropriate interpretation.

Course contents and focus

The three focal points of this university course are comprised of the Basics of quality assurance, the Application of quality assurance in the laboratory as well as Quality management in the laboratory. They are also the modules of this education.
The content-related focus of these bases is directed on the international requirements and tools for the analytical quality assurance in the laboratory.
Topics such as analytic nominal values, method validation and the evaluation of measured and analytic results support the application of quality assurance in the laboratory.
Data- and document management, the preparation for laboratory accreditation, audits and inspections are subjects for the third focus, the quality management.
Elective subjects provide in-depth training in the field of measurement uncertainty and process analytics, in the field of business administration they have subjects on cost management and benchmarking of laboratory services.
