Distinguished international scientists assemble at workshop in Eisenerz Print

From May 30th to June 3rd, 2010, an international workshop, dealing with the "In situ characterisation of near-surface processes", took place in Eisenerzer Ramsau. The conference was organised by the Department of Physics and supported by NANONET Styria and the national research network of the FWF "Organic thin films". The organising committee, under the direction of Prof. Christian Teichert, consisted of representatives from the University of Leoben, the Karl Franzens University of Graz, and the University of Technology Graz. Dr. Brigitta Kriszt and Mrs. Heide Kirchberger were responsible for the technical organisation.

At the opening of the interdisciplinary event, the president of the University of Leoben, Univ. Prof. Dr. Wolfhard Wegscheider, and Mrs. Christine Holzweber, mayoress of the city of Eisenerz, welcomed 70 physicists, chemists and materials scientists from a total of 20 countries from Europe, the USA, Japan, and China to the JUFA guest house in the heart of Ramsau.
The organizers succeeded in inviting the most internationally distinguished experts from numerous universities and research labs (e.g., IBM and NTT), who had the opportunity to meet young scientists and students from all over Europe, Austria and, of course, from Leoben.

The participants of the conference gathered in front of the Radwerk IV (iron museum).

In addition to the scientific programme of the conference, the participants enjoyed a visit to the monastery library in Admont, as well as an excursion to Vordernberg, where the origins of the University of Leoben can be found.
During the festive final evening with classical music, the Poster Prizes, donated by the Austrian Vacuum Society and the Materials Cluster Leoben, were awarded. The University of Leoben is particularly proud that the Poster Prize for Young Scientists was presented to Dr. Markus Kratzer from the Scanning Probe Microscopy Group from the Department of Physics.
