True to the motto „experiencing and understanding metals”, high school students from all over Austria are visiting the University of Leoben in order to explore the different fields of metallurgy and the city of Leoben during the "Metal Days" from July 5th-8th, 2010.Presentation of the university and its environmentThe essential aim of the conference – beside providing insights into the latest research projects and the university environment – is above all the active exchange of experience between the lecturers and students of metallurgy.Metals are more than just symbols in the periodic system of the elements encountered during chemistry lessons. Metals are indispensable in everyday life. For a broad range of high-tech products, from underwater pipelines to airplanes up to mobile phones or computers - metals play an essential role in our lives. In order to guarantee constant innovation in this exciting field of research, innovative, young people with a strong interest in technology are highly sought-after. Hence, the Department of Metallurgy at the University of Leoben is eager to promote and strongly support the next generation of metallurgists. Support by the industryThe event is supported by renowned industrial enterprises from Styria, and thereby enablesthe participants to experience metallurgy close-up. The aim of the "Metal Days" is to make the field of metallurgy more comprehensible, and consequently inspire young people to take-up a metallurgist’s extremely exciting and varied fields of activity.
