Test: New secure email gateway Print
University of Leoben IT services is testing a new message transfer agent. The gateway provides better spam catch rate and other security features.

The new filtering system is based on global reputation intelligence. It correlates and analyzes emails and calculates the ´trustworthiness´. Leading email providers like Gmail, Hotmail or GMX use similar technologies to protect customers against the latest online threats.

Description of security appliances:

- Well known spam senders are automatically blocked, the gateway will not accept the emails (positive spam).

- Emails that identified as spam from trusted providers are classified as suspected spam. Suspected spam will be moved to quarantine and recipients get a notification. Spam can be released or deleted.

- Furthermore an anti-virus engine checks the trusted emails. When an email with a virus has been detected, the email will be moved to quarantine and recipients get a notification.

The new email gateway runs parallel to the old system. After successfull testing the old gateway will be shut down.
