University Preparation Programs (Vorstudienlehrgang)The University Preparation Programs offer intensive courses for foreign (non-EU citizenship) applicants for a place at a university to prepare them for supplementary examinations prescribed by the universities. Students applying for the University of Leoben have to take these courses in Leoben. Participation in this program is prescribed by a notice, if the student cannot prove his/her proficiency in German and/or if supplementary examinations (e.g. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Descriptive Geometry) are necessary for the equivalence of the secondary education diploma. All applicants who have to attend the Preparation Program for the first time receive a payment bill for the course fee during their admission procedure at the University Preparation Program office. Address: Montanuniversität Zentrale Verwaltung Mrs. Dagmar Holzapfel Franz Josef-Straße 18, A-8700 Leoben, AUSTRIA While attending the program no tuition fee needs to be paid, you only have to pay the course fee. The payment bill has to be paid by bank transfer. After the course fee is paid you will get the payment bill for the Students’ union fee at the Admissions Office. The payment bill has to be paid by bank transfer. After having paid this fee you can register as non-degree program student there and can start studying. You have to register for this program at the beginning of each semester. How is the Leoben University Preparation Program organized? • Like the academic year, the University Preparation Program is structured in semesters: the winter semester lasts from the beginning of October until mid- February, the summer semester lasts from mid-February until the end of June. Each course lasts one semester 5 days a week. In the end of the German program students must have reached level B1. If you start the University Preparation Programme with no knowledge of German, the whole program will last three semesters until you reach the required level of German in order to be admitted as a degree program student. In case of further supplementary examinations, it will take two semesters until your full admission. If you have to take German and supplementary courses it will also take you three semesters. The first semester will be German only, during the next two semesters there will be German and supplementary courses. The language of instruction is German. The courses are held in multi-national groups of up to twenty participants. In addition to the language training, socio-cultural skills are conveyed, which are not restricted to university life, but to all aspects of student life. In order to achieve this, the University Preparation Program offers information and orientation events, excursions, day trips and parties organized by Plattform Leoben International. Information on these events will be sent by email at the beginning of the semester. There are examination dates per semester. You have to register for the exams at the secretary's office (see address above). An examination fee of € 20 has to be paid for each subject. • Course fees: German for beginners: € 300, 1 semester German intermediate and advanced: € 200/ semester German and supplementary courses: € 400/ semester What to do after having completed the Preparation Program? Once you have successfully passed your examinations of the University Preparation Program, you have to present your certificate at the Admissions Office of the University of Leoben. You will be registered as a degree program student within the admission period, and you will receive the payment bill for the tuition and/or the Students' Union fee. Once this payment is made you will receive your student's documents and then you can register for the courses of your degree program. |
