Menghuai Wu from the Chair of Modelling and Simulation of Metallurgical Processes at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben has been awarded the Styrian "Research Prize of Simulation and Modelling“.

Wu received the price, which is worth 8,000 euros, in the category 1 "Basic Research" for his work "Modeling Equiaxed Dentritic Solidification with Melt Convection and Grain Sedimentation, Part I: The Model & Part II: The Results and Verifications" published in the technical journal "Acta materialia".

Born in China, Menghuai Wu studied Material Sciences at the University of Xi'an. After his doctorate at the Aachen RWTH, he habilitated in the field of computational metallurgy at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben.

It is the third time that the „Research Prize of Simulation and Modelling of Styria“ has been awarded since 2007. A jury of experts selected the winners in three different categories; the awards were presented by the Styrian Councillor of Research and Science, Kristina Edlinger-Ploder, during a festive ceremony.
