Discussing Educational Matters with Dr. Hannes Androsch Print
In cooperation with the City of Leoben, the Austrian Student Union and the Catholic Student Community, the Montanuniversitaet Leoben hosted a talk on „Austria’s Future in the World of Tomorrow“ with Dr. Hannes Androsch at the Archduke Johann Auditorium on Tuesday, April 12th at 7 pm.

In his presentation, the chairperson of the University Council of the Montanuniversitaet Leoben referred to his recently published book „Austria. History. Present. Future“, and discussed topical questions on the education referendum initiated by him.
„If  9,000 high school students drop out of schools without having successfully completed their school-leaving qualifications  every year, and 15% of the students are content with only having finished compulsory education, they will at one point become expensive and sad cases for social welfare. There is a severe lack of qualified work force. 21% of the 15-year-olds are not able to understand what they are reading and fail in German as well as Mathematics. This is not good evidence for our education system, and we must act immediately. The same is true for our universities. Every year, 50,000 new students enrol in a university programme, but only 24,000 obtain an academic degree in the end. In popular study programmes, up to 80% drop out during their first year of studies because of unfair examination conditions. These are alarming states“, Androsch said.
The former Minister of Finance and Vice Chancellor and current industrialists is politically active in science and educational matters, and is not afraid to address unacceptable conditions and urge for future-oriented actions.
