Since the foundation of the "TU Austria“ last year, the Vienna University of Technology, Graz University of Technology, and the Montanuniversitaet act collectively in the fields of research, education and university policies. Under the claim "United through Excellence” in science and technology, a network of nearly 8,000 employees and approx. 38,000 students has now established its headquarters in Leoben. Dr. Elke Standeker will function as Head of the Coordination Office. Having finished her master’s studies in law at the University of Graz, Dr. Elke Standeker continued with her doctorate studies which she completed in 2002. She further topped her education with studies in economics as well as an MBA in Public Management at the Alpen Adria Universität Klagenfurt. After three years of scientific research at the University of Graz, and two years of work experience in a law company, she became Head of the Administration Department of Law, Human Resources and Library at the Medical University of Graz from 2006 to 2009, which was followed by her position as Head of the Department of Law, Organisation and Risk Management at an industrial enterprise, in addition to functioning as the spokesperson for the company. ChallengesStandeker recognizes the challenges that her new job as the Head Coordinator of TU Austria involve: „The primary goal is to unite the competences of all three Austrian universities under one roof in order to use synergies, and as a unit achieve a stronger visibility internationally. In times of scarcer budgets, parallel structures also need to be avoided, and „a clear positioning under one umbrella brand“ is absolutely crucial, according to Standeker.Goals and ObjectivesThe most important objectives for the near future were specified by the rectors Skalicky, Sünkel and Wegscheider during a meeting at the beginning of March. The following goals were defined:- Achieving competitive advantages in the international research competition as well as strengthening Austria in the field of science, technology and engineering by means of joint strategic positioning and coordination. - A joint position and strategy in the field science, technology and engineering in order to strengthen the USPs, as well as in fiscal issues, and in domestic positioning as a supporter of the MINT [Mathematics-Informatics-Natural Sciences-Technology] initiative in order secure and strengthen Austria as business and science location, benefiting the national economy and a strong joint presentation.
