Graduates of technical universities continue to receive the highest starting salaries in Austria in 2011,as presented in the recently released study “Update: Comparison of starting salaries of graduates 2011” by the “Forum Personal” of the Austrian Austrian Centre for Productivity and Profitability (Österreichischen Produktivitäts- und Wirtschaftlichkeits-Zentrums ,ÖPWZ). Neither graduates with business degrees nor graduates from universities of applied sciences with an engineering or technical focus get paid as much when they enter the job market. The update of the 2010 study shows the average base salary raise for entrants, and gives an overview of gross salaries for entry level positions at different educational levels, from vocational training to university. The precedent study of 2010, in which HR experts were surveyed, already presented the great earning potential for alumni of technical universities. According to the Rector of the „TU Austria“ (association of the three technical universities in Austria with TU Vienna, TU Graz and Montanuniversitaet Leoben), Wolfard Wegscheider, thegreat results are once more proof of the excellent quality of the training. “This shows us not only the high demand for engineers, but also the extremely high level of motivation and performance necessary to successfully complete your studies at a technical university”, Wegscheider said. According to the study, graduates of engineering programmes may expect between 2,460 to 2,710 euro per month. They therefore earn more than their peers graduationg from colleges of business and economics (2,311 bis 2,531 euro), law (2,356 bis 2,537 euro), and other academic disciplines or university of applied sciences with focus on engineering (2,382 bis 2,541 euro). Furthermore, the survey was looking to find out the kind of training and education employees should have in the year of 2011, and how personnel structure will change. According to Armand Kaáli-Nagy, author of the study, the trend towards engineering and technical training will continue.
