Festive Opening Ceremony for Refurbished Reading Room Print
A festive ceremony was recently given by the Montanuniversitaet Leoben to thank its alumni and benevolent supporter: Due to a generous donation by Dr. Pavle Matijevic, the study environment for students in the University Library has been improved significantly. As a tribute, the renovated reading room in the main library was named "Matijevic Reading Room". A modern and convenient book scanner as well the library search engine "BUGL" complement the enhanced services on offer

Dr.mont. Pavle Matijevic is alumni of 1995 of the Montanuniversitaet Leoben. He is CEO of PM Lucas, a corporate group, which is primarily concerned with oil and gas production. While attending the opening ceremony for the reading room with Rector Wolfhard Wegscheider and Dr. Christian Hasenhüttl, Head of the University Library, Matijevic announced that he would continue to support his "alma mater” in future.

Reading room in new splendour

The new reading room features a cork floor, absorbing room noise, an acoustic ceiling and the former glass wall facing the entrance was replaced with soundproof glazing. The new furniture consists of single working spaces, offering ample space for working with large books and journals.

New book scanner and innovative search engine

The new colour book scanner, which can be used by all library visitors, allows fast and convenient access to information without putting too much stress on the books themselves. The device, designed by Zeutschel, makes scanning as easy as reading a book: open the book and turn pages after each scan. The data can be saved on a USB stick or a memory card and can be sent via email.

With the launch of its special search engine, the Montanuniversitaet is setting new standards for electronic searches for academic papers and publications. The system, developed by the American supplier "SerialsSolutions", accesses half a billion documents, and is being used for the first time ever in a German speaking country. In the style of a certain internet search engine, the system has been named "BUGL" in Leoben (German acronym for Library and University Complete Biography).
