At the end of September, more than 100 university rectors from all over the world participated in a conference in St. Petersburg where they agreed on establishing and submitting an application for a UNESCO competence centre for education and training in the field of mining. The executive committee for this venture is made up by rectors of universities specialising in mining and raw materials from St. Petersburg, Freiberg and Leoben. They will be supported by another ten rectors from all over the world.
