New Cooperation with Three German Universities

In the course of an international symposium organised by the Austrian Mining Association (BVÖ) at Montanuniversität Leoben, a “Memorandum of Understanding” was signed between RWTH Aachen University, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Clausthal University of Technology and Montanuniversität Leoben.

The four universities will cooperate as „European Rock Extraction Research Group“ in the field of material extraction in mining and tunnelling. The cooperation will comprise of

  • joint, coordinated research activities and publications
  • joint participation in domestic and European research projects
  • joint applications for regional, domestic and European funding
  • exchange of scientific information
  • joint use of existing R&D infrastructure
  • joint  approach towards other research and industry partners as “European Rock Extraction Research Group”
  • joint organisation of conferences and events.

Goals of the cooperation
The goal of the cooperation is to significantly improve the selectivity and extraction rate of current and future systems in mining and tunnelling and develop new methods by means of R & D and creating the basis for:

  • improving of health, safety and environment
  • system optimisation of operation
  • increasing efficienc and decreasing costs
  • automation
  • enhanding environmental friendliness and sustainability of operation and
  • raising awareness and acceptance for raw materials extraction
