Two new Professors at Montanuniversität

On the 24. October 2014, two new professors were introduced at Montanuniversität Leoben: Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Clara Schuecker and Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Thomas Kienberger. They are the new heads of the Chair of Designing Plastics and Composite Materials and the Chair of Energy Network Technology. During the academic ceremony, in which the two professors were formally introduced, 86 post-graduate and 17 PhD students received their degrees.

v.l.n.r.: Rektor Wilfried Eichlseder, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Clara Schuecker, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Kienberger

Schuecker, born 1974, is the head of the chair formerly led by Em.O.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rudolf Wörndle at the department Polymer Engineering and Science. She studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Vienna and did her PhD in 2005 on the topic of “Modelling of Damage and Failure of Fibre Composite Polymer Laminates based on Failure Mechanisms”. After completing her thesis, Schueker took a post- doc research position at NASA Langley Research Center, USA. After returning to Austria, Schueker started the engineering office “Schueker- Composite Simulation”. Now, interlinking science and industry are among the professor’s new aims in Leoben.

The new professorship for energy network technology is now part of the department of environmental and energy process engineering at Montanuniversität. Born in 1981, Kienberger went on to study electrical engineering at the Technical University of Graz, and received his PhD degree in 2010. Until recently he was responsible for research and development of the company “agnion”.The new chair at Montanuniversität is still in a phase of development. Its aims however, are high, as it wants to become a key competence holder in the field of energy network technology.
