eduroam allows members from participating organizations to obtain internet connectivity when visiting other participating organizations. There is no need for a 'special guest login'. Authentication requests are sent to the user´s home institution.

Staff members of the university are able to test and configure eduroam access locally till end of may. Please don´t fully max out the capacity of this service, it is limited.

eduroam is a world-wide roaming access service. In the first place initialized in europe; today there are three eduroam confederations (Europe, Asia-Pacific and America). For detailed information about participating countries refer to the interactive map on http://www.eduroam.org.

WLAN Internet Connectivity

The network name (SSID) for guests is: eduroam

Available wireless networking security standards:
  • WPA2 + AES/CCMP
  • WPA2 + TKIP
  • WPA + AES
  • WPA + TKIP
If possible please activate the highest possible protection standard WPA2 + AES/CCMP!

University of Leoben staff/faculty and students visiting other participating organizations

WLAN

Normally the network name (SSID) is: eduroam (the name may be different but should always contain the phrase eduroam!)

If possible please activate the highest possible protection standard WPA2 + AES/CCMP!

Authentication

University of Leoben users, visiting another eduroam member, are able to gain access over WLAN with their University account.

Communication between the access point and the user´s home institution is based on IEEE 802.1X standard and EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol). Security is very high and username/password is carried over PEAP tunnel with the MS-CHAPv2 authentication protocol.

Requirements

Authorised are:
  • Students with active account
  • Staff/faculty with active account

Username students

Username = matriculation number + @unileoben.ac.at

Username faculty/staff

Username = employee number + @unileoben.ac.at

Example: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Please note: You need an university account with your employee number. If you don´t have a username with your employee number please contact our helpdesk to change your account.

Supported Operating Systems

eduroam uses open standards, to ensure access from different platforms:
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • MacOS X
  • Linux
as well as all other platforms which support IEEE 802.1X standards.

Services

Services based on the "eduroam Service Definition and Implementation Plan" should always be guaranteed. In addition, other services may be activated by the eduroam partner.
