History of the chair AVAW

 
1991

Introduction of the Industrial Environmental Protection, Waste Management Technology and Recycling (IU) degree program. 
The program starts with 270 enrolled students (170 first-time enrollees and 100 transfer students).
 

1992

The first DepoTech conference is held.
The conference has been held every two years since then and has become the largest German-language waste management and recycling conference.


1993

Foundation of the Institute for Waste Management and Landfill Technology (IED) under the direction of Prof. Karl E. Lorber.
 

2003

Renaming of the Institute for Waste Management and Landfill Technology (IED) to the Institute for Sustainable Waste Management and Waste Disposal Technology (IAE).
 

2011

Establishment of the current Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management (AVAW) under the direction of Prof. Roland Pomberger.
Integration into the newly created Department of Environmental and Energy Process Engineering.
 

2013

Prof. Karl E. Lorber retires
All employees and courses of the Institute IAE are transferred to the new Chair AVAW – the IAE is dissolved.
 

2014

Change of name for the Industrial Environmental Protection, Waste Management Technology and Recycling (IU) degree program. 
Starting in the winter semester 2014/2015, our degree program will be called Industrial Environmental Protection and Process Engineering - the abbreviation IU will remain unchanged.
 

2016

Renaming of DepoTech (conference) to Recy & DepoTech.
 

2022

Study reform at the Technical University of Leoben. 
Our field of study Industrial Environmental Protection and Process Engineering (IU) will be renamed and will be called Environmental and Climate Protection Technology (UKT) starting in the winter semester 2022/2023.
