Evaluation of potential technologies for the reduction of CO₂ emissions for the production of refractory materials

The ceramics industry produces CO₂ through both the combustion of energy sources and the calcination of carbonate raw materials, thus contributing to the anthropogenic greenhouse effect. The storageand utilizationof CO₂ through carbonation represents a promising approach to solving this problem. Within the GreenRefproject, several chairs of the University of Leoben are working together with the client, RHI Magnesita, on technologies for the carbonation of mineral raw materials from primary and secondary sources.

The project aimsto lay the foundations for CO₂-neutral production of refractory materials.
