Recycling of synthetic mineral fibers

Synthetic mineral fibers (SMF) accrue during demolition of buildings as wastes. Due to their unfavorable landfill mechanical properties disposal of SMF on landfills constitutes a problem. The project RecyMin therefore deals with the recycling of SMF.

The project RecyMin comprises several approaches:

• Further development of existing concepts for conditioning SMF for landfilling by comminution and agglomeration;
• Further development of existing concepts to develop a backfill material from SMF for underground mining;
• Development of a concept to use SMF as substitute raw material and/or clinker additive in the cement industry;
• Development of a concept to recycle SMF in the stone/glass wool industry.
