End of the year!

Welcome to the CTL and LLC newsletter! The year is coming to an end and, as usual, we want to address current topics in this newsletter. This time, we would like to briefly introduce the 360° project on ‘MUL: An Essential Starter Guide’, give you a review and outlook on the Teaching Brunch, and announce dates for planned courses.

360°-Project

MUL: An Essential Starter Guide

For the course ‘MUL: An Essential Starter Guide’ for international students, the CTL created a 360° project using 3D-Vista software and a 360° camera. It is a virtual tour of the Montanuniversität campus, peppered with all kinds of interactive content. It brings part of the Montanuniversität and the city of Leoben to life. It also provides a little ‘virtual local knowledge’ and hopefully makes it easier to find your way around Leoben. The aim of the ‘MUL: An Essential Starter Guide’ project is to familiarise international students with the Montanuniversität Leoben, the local area, and the country and culture of Austria, and ideally to prepare them for a successful course of study before they even start.

Teaching Brunch

The Teaching Brunch took place on 26 November. This time, the discussion focused on how to encourage reflection among students. Detailed information can be found HERE.
The format provides an opportunity to address any topics related to teaching and discuss them with other teachers. This allows participants to address challenges in their own teaching and find new approaches together. At the same time, cold snacks are available to satisfy your appetite.
The next Teaching Brunch will take place on 6 February 2026 from 11:30 a.m. on the topic of accessibility in teaching and learning materials. Registrations are possible at MUonline/Events. A corresponding mailing will follow.

Moodle-Basiskurs des CTL

The basic Moodle course for secretariats took place in two parts on 3 December and 12 December. The following topics were covered, among others: synchronisation with MUOnline, roles, dashboard, views, course settings, reusing course content, participants and activities. In addition, individual questions were discussed in order to provide participants with as much personalised support as possible.

From now on, there will be one Moodle course for secretariats per semester. We are also planning a basic Moodle course for academic staff in the first quarter of 2026, which will also be repeated regularly.

New programme from the LLC: MonTandem

LLC: autonomous, informal language learning

LLC has launched MonTandem, a new programme for autonomous, informal language learning. A tandem involves two people supporting each other in learning languages with their different (native) languages, e.g. one tandem partner has German as their native language and wants to improve their Spanish, while the second tandem partner wants to learn German and can support them with Spanish as their native language. The initial announcement was very successful, and the learning pairs are currently being matched.

Moodle course ‘Accessibility in teaching materials’

Self-enrolment possible!

Accessible teaching materials ensure that all students can participate equally in their studies, regardless of their individual circumstances. This includes clear structures, easily legible fonts, high-contrast displays and the provision of alternative formats such as screen reader-compatible PDFs. Audiovisual content should include subtitles or transcripts. The use of simple and understandable language can also facilitate access. In this way, inclusion is actively promoted in everyday university life. The Moodle course Accessibility in Teaching Materials offers important assistance in designing your own teaching materials to be accessible.
