Summer Term

Spring is approaching and the summer semester has begun.

Welcome to the CTL and LLC newsletter!

The year started well, and we hope that you are not drowning in your to-do list for the summer semester. Hopefully you can find a moment to read our newsletter. This march-issue includes an introduction to the organizational unit LLC “Languages, Learning and Culture”, new dates and topics for the Teaching Brunch, and the CTL's new ticket system. As usual, we will also suggest upcoming events.

language is not a generatic gift, it is a social gift. Learning a new lanuguage is becoming a member of the club - the community of speakers of that language.

Languages, Learning & Culture (LLC)

Your Service for Teaching, Languages and Skills

The service unit Languages, Learning & Culture (LLC) supports students and staff at many stages of their learning and professional journey — from their first steps at university to further development in teaching and academic careers.

Its services range from the compulsory “Transferable Skills” module in the STEOP phase to activities within the qualification agreement process. In this context, LLC also supports teaching portfolios and research projects on one’s own teaching (SoTL).

LLC also contributes to teaching and learning: the seminars Teaching and Learning in Higher Education I + II are recognized by MUL as mandatory proof of training.

With its language offerings, LLC makes a significant contribution to the internationalization of MUL. In addition to courses for students, it also provides courses within professional development. Informal formats such as MonTandem, individual coaching, and English proofreading further enrich the spectrum. At the same time, LLC actively promotes the transferable skills of students and staff.

LLC is happy to provide support with questions related to teaching and learning. At LLC, a team of four permanent staff members and 22 external lecturers supports learning and personal development.

This ensures that your support requests are correctly categorised internally, enabling us to provide high-quality and faster responses. Furthermore, your personal details are already pre-filled via Single Sign-On, so you can focus entirely on your support request.
Any questions regarding Moodle, educational video production and teaching and learning technologies can now be submitted quickly and easily via the ticketing system.

Teaching Brunch

Save the date: 14.4.2026, 11:30-13:00

The Teaching Brunch will take place on 14 April 2026, focusing on accessibility in teaching and learning materials. You can also find the self-study course on this topic at moodle.unileoben.ac.at/course/view.php?id=5617.

Light refreshments, coffee and tea will be available again. You can register via MUonline/Events. A formal invitation will follow.

The next Teaching Brunch will take place on 16 June on the topic of eCampus. Andrea Büchner from the eCampus team will provide first-hand insights into the platform.
eCampus supports lecturers in designing and further developing future-oriented university teaching and provides a well-structured collection of use cases, each accompanied by practical tips and guidance.

Moodle course ‘Accessibility in teaching materials’

Self-enrolment possible!

Accessible teaching materials ensure that all students can participate equally in their studies, regardless of their individual circumstances. This includes clear structures, easily legible fonts, high-contrast displays and the provision of alternative formats such as screen reader-compatible PDFs. Audiovisual content should include subtitles or transcripts. The use of simple and understandable language can also facilitate access. In this way, inclusion is actively promoted in everyday university life. The Moodle course Accessibility in Teaching Materials offers important assistance in designing your own teaching materials to be accessible.
