Workshop at UC Berkeley

The Post-TMS2026 workshop, held March 23–24 at the University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA, provided four researchers from the Department of Materials Science with the opportunity to present their research findings to a broad audience of established participants from universities and national laboratories. The event was organized by Peter Hosemann, a professor of nuclear engineering and a former graduate of Leoben. The workshop allowed for a much more detailed presentation of scientific questions, followed by discussions with experts in the field. The packed program, featuring renowned professors, established postdocs, and young doctoral candidates, created a dynamic mix where new ideas and approaches were shared alongside well-founded knowledge and practical experience. The limited number of participants allowed for an intensive scientific exchange and the opportunity to get to know one another on a personal level. A special highlight was the evening tour of the institute, which included a fully automated, robot-assisted sample preparation process, as well as a visit to the former reactor room, which was dismantled due to the risk of earthquakes.
