University Sports (USI)
When you want to put the books aside, you can enjoy the high quality of life and the extensive range of sports and leisure activities in Leoben to the full. Whether you want to let off steam by hiking, climbing, jogging or skiing, Leoben offers ideal conditions for all outdoor enthusiasts.
Our USI (University Sports Institute) offers an impressive range of over 90 courses for our students. Whether you want to let off steam with bouldering, tennis, boxing or Zumba, you will find the perfect sports activity here. But that's not all! You can also dive into the world of partner acrobatics, improve your dance moves and discover many more exciting activities!

Sports competitions and tournaments

While the average student room in Austria costs €500 per month (source: AK Vienna, ÖH: Student Housing), in Leoben you can live in a student dorm room from as little as €350 and in your own flat or studio apartment from €450.
Top-quality rooms in the highest price range are available in Leoben for under €500, and often even under €400, thanks to the city’s affordable housing.
To make your start in Leoben as smooth as possible, the city has a special surprise in store: students of the Technical University of Leoben who register their main residence in Leoben for the first time receive a generous grant of €250 in LE vouchers.
In every subsequent year, students who can prove their main residence in Leoben as of 1 November will receive an additional €100 in LE vouchers.

Just a five-minute walk from the Technical University of Leoben lies Leoben’s main railway station. From there, you can explore new sides of Austria and our neighbouring countries thanks to numerous train connections.

If you prefer to travel by public transport and purchase a Klimaticket (Austria’s nationwide public transport pass), you can benefit from various financial support schemes:
- Subsidy from the City of Leoben (€100 or €70)
- ÖH Mobility Grant (€10,000 distributed among all students holding a Klimaticket)
- TalentTicket (€300 towards a Klimaticket in your third semester)
If a Klimaticket doesn’t pay off for you, you can still travel sustainably and affordably: with the ÖH Klimaticket Rental Service, you can borrow a Klimaticket for Styria or Salzburg for just €1 per day.
