TU Leoben strengthens Academic Cooperation with Egypt

As a follow-up to the visit of representatives of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt and an Egyptian university delegation to Leoben, Rector Peter Moser and Dr. Riyaz Kharrat visited the Egyptian Embassy in Vienna on the 30th of July.

H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Nasr welcomed the delegation for constructive discussions that placed a particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation with Egyptian industry. The participants explored opportunities to connect higher education and applied research with industrial needs through joint projects, knowledge transfer, professional training, and innovation.

The meeting also addressed cooperation in teaching and research, student and academic staff mobility, and the development of joint and dual-degree programmes. Areas of mutual interest included sustainable development, energy, mining, metallurgy, recycling, applied geosciences, environmental technologies, and the circular economy.

The meeting built upon the Egyptian delegation’s visit to Leoben, which included academic discussions, the signing of a cooperation agreement with Galala University, and an Egyptian Summer School at the Technical University of Leoben.

The Embassy confirmed its support for Rector Moser’s planned visit to Cairo in November 2026. In coordination with the relevant Egyptian authorities, the programme is expected to include meetings with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Supreme Council of Universities, business and industrial representatives, and the authorities responsible for the EAGLE Project.

This continued exchange marks an important step towards establishing sustainable academic, research, and industrial partnerships between the Technical University of Leoben and Egyptian institutions.
