Award of Excellence: Abdullah Jabr receives national prize

Dipl.-Ing. Dr. mont. Abdullah Jabr, form the Chair of Structural and Functional Ceramics at the Technical University of Leoben, has been awarded the prestigious Award of Excellence 2025 of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research. He received the price for his dissertation on the innovative cold sintering process for the energy-efficient production of ceramics.

This national prize, awarded annually by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research, is one of the highest honors for outstanding academic achievements by early-career researchers in Austria. The official award ceremony took place on December 10, 2025, at the Aula der Wissenschaften in Vienna. Since 2008, the Award of Excellence has recognized outstanding scientific achievements and emphasized the importance of cutting-edge research in Austria.

In his dissertation titled “Understanding the Effect of Processing Conditions on the Properties of Cold Sintered Ceramics”, Dr. Jabr investigated a novel cold sintering process that enables ceramics to be produced at temperatures below 350 °C—significantly lower than the conventional processes, which typically require temperatures above 1000 °C. His work makes an important contribution to the development of sustainable material solutions and paves the way for new applications.
