ECerS XIX

The XIX ECerS Conference of the European Ceramic Society took place from August 31 to September 4 in Dresden, Germany. With around 1,450 participants, it is the largest European conference in the field of ceramics. The Chair of Structural and Functional Ceramics was strongly represented with eight participants.

The ISFK presented itself in five different symposia within the international community with the following contributions:

Thermal processes and advanced sintering / Cold sintering:

  • Dr. Abdullah Jabr – Exploring the structural integrity of cold sintered ceramics
  • Dipl.-Ing. Tobias Prötsch – Towards strong and tough alumina-based ceramics through rapid sintering

Additive manufacturing:

  • Univ.-Prof. Dr. Raul Bermejo – Architectural design of 3D-printed alumina-based multimaterial components with enhanced damage tolerance
  • Dr. Maximilian Staudacher – Analysis and categorisation of defects in additive manufacturing of ceramics
  • Dr. Maximilian Staudacher – Strength testing of additive manufactured ceramics – A round robin using the CharAM methodology

Advanced structural ceramics and composites:

  • Dipl.-Ing. Maximilian Munz – Strength of silicon nitride bearing balls with respect to Hertzian contact and tensile loading

Ceramics for energy conversion and storage, chemistry and environment / Hydrogen:

  • Arijit Jana, MTech – A multi-material approach to optimize mechanical strength and ionic conductivity in 8YSZ ceramic solid oxide electrolytes

Advanced characterization techniques:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanja Lube – X-NRT: the cross-notched roller strength test for ceramic cylinders
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Peter Supancic – Analysis of eigenmodes of well-defined elastic specimens

In addition to engaging presentations and fruitful discussions, there was also time for networking. During a guided city tour, participants learned about Dresden’s rich and eventful history.

At the evening event of the Young Ceramists Network (YCN), the representatives for the 2024–2025 term were acknowledged, among them Dr. Abdullah Jabr for his role as YCN representative for Austria.
