Orientation Phase (STEOP)
Your successful start to your studies at the Technical University of Leoben.
Starting a course of study is a big step. The orientation phase (STEOP) supports you in starting your studies at the Technical University of Leoben safely and well prepared.
After only 6 weeks, you will earn your first 10 ECTS-Credits as part of the STEOP and thus collect valuable academic achievements at an early stage. At the same time, you will receive a well-founded introduction to central course content and develop important key competencies for your academic path.
Contents of STEOP
As part of the STEOP, you will complete 2 central courses:
Basic university skills
In this course, you will acquire essential skills for your studies. This includes the basics of rhetoric, presentation techniques and the confident handling of important Microsoft Office applications. These skills will accompany you throughout your studies and beyond.- Introduction to the STEM subjects
This course gives you an overview of the mathematical and scientific foundations of your studies, without any previous technical knowledge. You will learn about key terms and develop an understanding of how the individual departments are linked to each other. In this way, a solid foundation for your further studies is laid at an early stage.
Support from the start
For effective preparation, you will be accompanied by experienced students. The so-called Peer Teachers will support you with technical questions and share valuable tips from their own study experience. As a result, you will usually successfully complete the STEOP in November and start the rest of your studies well oriented.

The study centre of the Technical University of Leoben offers you modern lecture halls, quiet study rooms and individually usable carrels with good technical equipment. Here you will find optimal conditions for concentrated learning and working together with your colleagues.
