Box "Rocks of Styria"

As a small "sub-project" within the framework of the predecessor project to the teaching and learning laboratory, SCHOOL@MUL, a collaboration was established between the former KPH Graz (now the Augustinum Private University of Education; led by Prof. Mag. Klemens Karner), the Chair of Petroleum Geology at the Montanuniversität Leoben (headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Reinhard Sachsenhofer) and the "Schulatlas Steiermark" project. The focus was on developing child-friendly teaching materials on the subject of "Rocks of Styria" that were scientifically accurate for use in primary schools and beyond.

The "rock box" was completed in early summer 2017 and contains samples of the twelve most important and typical rocks of Styria for viewing and handling. The educational material also includes index cards on the individual rocks, background information for teachers and a geological map of Styria with the locations of the twelve rocks marked on it.

The "rock box" was made available to SCHOOL@MUL's partner schools at the time for use in lessons. It can still be borrowed free of charge from the Styrian Environmental Education Centre (UBZ):
