Workshop-Modul „Salts“

Salt, the "white gold": In the past, salt was very valuable and expensive, which is why it was called "white gold". It is still a very important commodity today, because we need it to survive. In the teaching and learning laboratory at the Montanuniversität Leoben, pupils have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of research and learn more about salt as a raw material.

„Hands-on“ in small groups

In small groups of two to three children, the girls and boys are allowed to complete experiment stations independently in order to work on various "research assignments" on the topic of salts. Over a period of approximately two hours, a team of students and educators from the Montanuniversität and the Augustinum Private University of Education supports and accompanies the entire school class on their exciting journey.

All the materials needed for the experiments are provided for the children. They record the results of their experiments in a prepared "research notebook". The behaviour of salt in combination with ice is just as much a part of the work assignments and experiments as, for example, comparing salt with other substances and taking a fascinating look through a microscope. And, of course, there is also something to take home and continue researching.

The workshop is particularly well suited for primary school classes (from Year 2 onwards).

We look forward to welcoming lots of curious little researchers!
