Hands-on workshops in the teaching and learning laboratory

The Teaching and Learning Laboratory at the Montanuniversität Leoben offers various workshops for school classes. Currently, modules on “Salts,” “Plastics,” “Metals,” “Energy,” and “Graphite” are available. The range of workshops is constantly being expanded and is free of charge for schools.

The workshops last approximately two hours. All materials for the experiments, as well as lab coats and goggles in children's sizes, “research notebooks,” and other accompanying materials are provided.

The content of the workshops relates to the research and teaching areas of the Montanuniversität Leoben and thus to the value creation cycle from raw material extraction and processing to metallurgy, high-performance materials, process and product engineering, environmental technology, and recycling.

A team from the Augustinum Private University of Education has selected and prepared experiments and background information suitable for this age group from these subject areas.

Offer for school classes

The workshop modules mentioned are suitable for primary school classes, but also for the first year of secondary school and AHS (5th grade). In the winter semester 2025/26, we will be offering the "Metals" module.

For older secondary school students, work is currently underway to expand the range of courses on offer in combination with the earlier SCHOOL@MUL project. Further information is available on request from the Teaching and Learning Lab team.
