#GWB2021 – IUPAC GLOBAL WOMEN’S BREAKFAST // AUSTRIAN HUB

The IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast, was held on February 9, 2021, two days prior to the United Nations Day of Women and Girls in Science. Goal 5 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. This year, 324 events from 70 countries were included on the global map, including a joint event hosted by Montanuniversität Leoben (Johanna Irrgeher), University of Vienna – WoChem (Evelyn Rampler, Andrea Tanzer) and TU Wien - FemChem (Vanessa Nürnberger, Martina Marchetti-Deschmann).

Following the 2021 topic "Empowering diversity in Science", the hosts took the opportunity to initiate possible networking between different Austrian institutions by bringing together people engaged and interested in diversity, equity and inclusion.

The event was started in ZOOM with welcoming all participants showing a nice video provided by IUPAC for the event, followed by a short introduction into the host initiatives. The actual breakfast setting was set up in Wonder.me, which allowed attendees to individually swap between discussion groups, to meet new people and have chats in smaller groups, similarly to an in-person breakfast event.

The event led to new connections between groups within and outside the participating organizations and increased attention to diversity issues amongst participants. The organizers cordially thank all #GWB2021 attendees for participation in this wonderful event.
