10th European NESY Winterschool & Symposium

The institute of Physics organised again the “10th European NESY Winterschool & Symposium on Neutron and Synchrotron Radiation“, which took place from March 6 to 10 in Altausse, Austria. The NESY-winterschool is one of the most important platforms for the Austrian NESY-community using Europe’s large scale research facilities for research projects.

The school has been initiated as an inter-university lecture in 1999 and was held since then every second year. Since 2005 the school is as “European NESY Winterschool” also open to the European research community working at Neutron Sources, Synchrotron and Free Electron Laser facilities.

Austrian experts give tutorials in the morning, whereas in the scientific sessions in the late afternoon/evening international experts report on their recent results. Especially young scientists have the opportunity to present and to discuss their first research results. These two blocks –school and symposium- are separated by a longer “lunch” break with the possibility for winter sport activities like skiing and snowboarding.

The positive response from this year’s event motivated us again to start already with the organisation of the 11th European NESY Winterschool & Symposium in 2019!
